Nickname: Epic Trip 2008 Crew: Jori, Laura, Lauren, Nat, Liz, Jeremy, Bryce, Ali, Demian DC Mountain Lab 1.5: Watched over 4 times. Day 1: Heavenly. Only one run was available due to wind hold on everything else. It was a mediocre run, on the California side, BUT the snow was fresh and felt great. The current storm is ending and most of the mountain is opening tomorrow. On the negative side, I could only ride for ~3 hours, my back started to kill me, def. a pulled tendon of sorts. Got drugs yesterday, we'll see how effective they are for muscle spasms and pain. IcyHot is pretty solid as well. Day 2: Heavenly. The full crew arrived into Tahoe. Now, Jori, Laura, Lauren, Nat, Liz, Jeremy, Bryce and I are in our little condo. Heavenly today is soo much better! They opened up the Nevada side (Stagecoach lodge and lift) and with no winds we were able to ride a large part of the mountain. They still have much terrain to open, but with another few storms on their way, everyone is ready to get to good runs. Beer is $9 on the mountain. And I'm pretty sure that tonight, as we partied, I fucked up my back. Day 3: Kirkwood. Yep. I fucked up my back. It's just in that pain place where you know that you could ride, but you'd come out of it really hurt. So I'm taking today off. A stereotypical Lodge-Bum for the day. Which sorta sucks since the Blizzard is here. Since this morning (it's noon now), there's been a solid 5 inches and there is no chance of it letting up. We already tossed the chains on my trusty Sebring so we're ready to peace out at the end of the day. I'm really looking forward to driving 20+ miles in chains. yay. Tomorrow is looking like another Heavenly Day and I should be ready to rock it. Day 4: Heavenly. Taking the day off yesterday was well worth it. Today was fantastic. But enough about the snow, the real story is about the true S.Lake experience, where Jori and I spent three hours eating sushi and drinking all varieties of Sake, then just as we're about to crash (at 9:40p) we rally and make our way over the Cabo Wabo with locals and a bottle of tequila which gets finished high-school-style in the car. We don't get to sleep until 4a and by 9a we're riding the slopes again. It was a trip. Snow started coming down again as we were leaving and although we had some chain miles we made it back in a bit over 6 hours.... with just enough time to hit the hot tub until everyone was wrinkly and relaxed. |
